A Great Dane and a French Bulldog/Boston Terrier | Cobourg Photographer

Sydnee and Bridgette were adorable. When Bridgette was a puppy (the french bulldog/boston terrier) and her mommy would take them for walks, people would ask if she was Sydnee’s puppy….it made me think of how people always see my girls and say “are they twins?”

DOG DAY – SATURDAY DECEMBER 11th

“He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion.”
- Unknown

I have been getting a lot of emails about photographing dogs, so have decided to dedicate a day to just that.  So please take the time to read through this, your 4 legged child will appreciate it.

My whole life I have owned a dog. Not only have I owned dogs, but I have also saved a few when they were just pups and not thought to survive. I love dogs, they have so much character to them.  Now, as many as you know, I have four small children, and up until recently had a beautiful Golden Retriever called Daisy. With business and the children, we found that not enough time was being spent with Daisy, so with a heavy heart, we found her a new home (where she is loved and spoiled very much!) The day she left, I made sure to do a photoshoot of her, so that I had something to remember her always. I find myself often looking at these photos, and although they still can cause me to choke up, I am so grateful I took them. That’s why I have decided to do this dog day. So that all of you out there that cherish your dogs can have some great professional photos of them.  With that said, I am not just doing this for you, I am also doing this for the Humane Society. I would love to be able to give back to them, so for each session I will donate $30 and you have to bring in a bag of dry dog food that will also be donated.

There are only 20 openings, so you need to call or email to book your slot. Dog Day will be Saturday December 11th 2010 (by appointment) and viewing day will be Friday December 17th 2010 (by appointment).

Now, this will not be a typical “studio dog portrait session”. I plan on capturing your dogs personality and showcasing that in the photos. I have found that with some dogs, the first couple shots are all that are needed, but with others, it may take a bit more time. No problem, whatever it takes to get that perfect shot.  To make sure that the focus is on your dog, the portrait will be a highkey shot (that means white background) so that your eye goes directly to your dog, as you can see in the samples.

5 Reasons Why You Should Trust Me With Your Dogs Portraits

1. Your dogs portraits will be better then any other snapshots you may have already.

2. Because I know you love your dog.

3. Because your dog wants to help out the Humane Society as well.

4. You will not find better prices for the best Dog Portrait.

5. I know your dog wants this as your dog has already emailed me telling me so. So please don’t disappoint your dog.

“Dogs have given us their absolute all. We are the center of ther universe. We are the focus of their love and faith and trust. They serve us in return for scraps. It is without a doubt the best deal man has ever made.”
- Roger Caras

I realize that not everyone is available during the day, which is why I am staying open until 7pm, so you need to book your session quick to get the time that works best for you. There are only 20 sessions available, and I have had a lot of interest already into Dog Day, so don’t wait! Sessions are approximately 20 minutes long, sometimes THE photo is captured within the first few minutes, sometimes it takes just a bit longer to get comfortable. But I have found that 20 minutes is a good amount of time for dog portraits.

Here are the prices that Zepplin squeezed out of me for Dog Day:

“The difference between cats and dogs is, dogs come when they are called, cats take a message and get back to you.”

Here are a few things you should know about Dog Day:

  • Images will be in black and white to make sure all attention is focused on your dog, especially their eyes and facial expression

  • Images will be captured on highkey (all white) backdrop for same reasons as above

  • Images will be of the dog (or dogs) alone. This is dog day, not owner and dog day (so please don’t ask)

  • A bag of dog food and a $30 donation is required at the time of the session.

  • Please bring any toys you use to bribe your dog into smiling. Want to dress up your dog? Go for it.

  • If for some reason your dog has an accident in the studio, it happens. Please don’t cry.

  • Please give 48 hours notice of cancellation so your spot can be rebooked.

There are only 20 spots available so phone or email to book your slot. Dog Day is SaturdayDecember 11th (by appointment) and viewing day is December 17th (by appointment).

22×11 Plaque

“The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too.” - Samuel Butler

And just think how not only are you getting a great portrait of your dog, but you are also helping other dogs out in need.

kona | cobourg photographer

kona is my other mascot for dogs day.  another one of my friends was nice enough to bring him in to the studio for some shots. have you ever heard the saying that a dog looks like his owner? well, i have to say, i think that kona looks like his daddy! :) (and dave, rosie agrees with me).  the first photo is the type that will be offered on dog day…it’s all about the dog and catching their personalities in their look. the second photo was just for fun, and since rosie had to wait longer then kristen to see her baby on my blog, i thought i’d post an extra! :)

zepplin | cobourg photographer

zepplin is one of my models for dog day (which will be coming soon, so stay tuned). don’t worry rosie, i will have kona on here very soon! i was kid around with zepplin’s mom, telling her that when she has kids, she’ll be more then prepared, since i think zepplin is more work then a child! but his cuteness makes up for it i guess!

i got the idea of dog day from one of my friends, james hodgins (www.hodginphotography.com) who just completed this and had a lot of fun doing it. i will be donating the session fee to the northumberland human’s society, so what better way to get a photo of your dog and help out a worth while organization in the process. once i have everything put together, i will post an official statement on dog day and get everything going! just thought i’d show you what type of portrait you could be getting of your dog. my goal is to capture their personality….
