There are a few things to consider  when being photographed. What I'm about to talk about, will help to improve the look of your photos, which will make us both happy.

CLOTHING
This is a very important one. You really need to look at what you're wearing, especially if it will be more then one person in the photo. It is best to stay simple, neutral colors, instead of busy, patterned shirts. You don't want the eye to immediately be drawn to your clothing, you want your face to be the first thing that is noticed. Also, if there is more then one person in the photo, then try to match. You don't have to have identical clothing, but colors that compliment each other is always a wonderful thing! Long sleeved shirts are also very important. If you have the skin on your arm exposed, 9 times out of 10, you will first notice your arms in the photo, instead of your face. And believe it or not, jeans with a white or black shirt is a very classic look that photographs beautifully. Still unsure about what to wear? Please don't be afraid to email or phone me if you have more questions about this.

CHILDREN
PLEASE DO NOT practice their smile before you come! This always brings out that silly "cheese" smile, which is not what we want. We want their natural smile. The one that makes them unique from others. And believe it or not,  there are times when a photograph has more depth when the child is not smiling, but more serious. As long as you're not over my shoulder saying "say cheese!" then we'll be ok.

Bring different outfits, but realize that we might not use them all, especially for babies. This can sometimes frustrate them, and make them very fussy. Also, most babies, (especially newborns) look best in their birthday suit, or just a simple white onesie.

If your child is at all shy, be patient. We give them as much time as they (not you) need to warm up to me and my camera. Parents are eager to please by urging the child on, and this never helps. Please don't answer for your child when he or she is asked a question. I try to bond with them by getting them to talk to me.

MAKE-UP & HAIR
Of course, remember to brush your hair the day you're coming for photos. However, it is important to still look like yourself. I tell this to brides all the time. You want to be able to look at your photos and see you. If you don't normally wear a lot of makeup, then don't load it on for your photos. And don't worry if you get that unsightly blemish, I will remove it before your photos are viewed by you. If you normally wear your hair down or in a pony tail, don't worry about getting some fancy hairstyle done. However, if you want to do this, then by all means, go ahead - These are your photos!
